Metallica（金属乐队/金属制品..囧）于1981年在美国洛杉矶成立，Thrash Metal的代表乐队之一，与Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax并称为鞭笞金属四巨头。
Master of Puppets 出自1986年的同名专辑《Master of Puppets》，专辑封面很有意思，天上的两只手用线操控着一大片十字墓碑。我的第一感觉是，这是要表达上帝把人都给玩死了- - 然后仔细看了下歌词，果嘞个然！歌词的大部分都是以傀儡主人的语气来唱的，唱出了一副嚣张不可一世、龙城孤傲无情灭霸狂少拽爷的样子。只有中间慢SOLO后的那一段才是傀儡的话，质问主人为什么要这样对待它。唉，看到这里忍不住觉得很同情傀儡，正是那个你最信任的人，你的主人，把你弄成这样。唉，想想啊，人家是主人，不弄弄你怎么刷优越感呢？然后便又是傀儡主人的部分，继续嘲弄傀儡，结尾哈哈哈一阵狂笑然后归于沉寂，估计傀儡的一生到这也差不多完了。
从表面上以及专辑封面来看，傀儡主人便是上帝，傀儡便是凡人。人们信仰上帝，把一切托付于上帝，结果便失去一切。人的一生被上帝所摆布，最后被上帝弄死( I will help you die)。不知道这首歌跟Metallica贝斯手Cliff Burton的车祸去世有没有关系，如果有的话，那估计这车祸也是这首歌的灵感了，看似成功的人生被一场意外毁灭得彻彻底底。
深层次一点，估计这首歌也有影射政治的意思。傀儡主人便是权力、统治的象征，傀儡就是被压迫被统治的人民。特别是Obey your master这一句，怎么看怎么是让人民响应号召。结果你obey了你的master，你的life就burns faster。
抛开政治方面来说这首歌的主要意思应该还是对在命运面前人类的渺小的哀叹。人从出生就要被命运所玩弄，直到死去，没有人能战胜命运。
这首歌差不多是除了Enter Sandman之外Metallica的又一代表作品，无论是RIFF还是SOLO都非常精彩。
