Once a mighty king ruled in a northern land
曾经，一个强大的国王统治着北方
His enemies he fought with steel and iron hand.
他以钢铁之手击溃他的敌人
So many tales were told, his name a glorious sound,
他的故事被人们传诵，他的名字被人们敬奉
"god-like he is" they said, and by no christian laws was bound.
他们说“他就是神”，那时没有基督的法律约束他们
Long ago in a northern land...
那就是很久以前的北欧大地.......
One day they came across the nordic sea,
一天，他们穿越北方的海岸
The man of the cross and camped beside a tree
那男子在一棵树下扎营
Which was called a sacred one for all thy heathen hearts,
这是所有异教徒心中的圣地
Where sacrifices were given to their northern forefathers Gods...
为他们保卫这片土地的祖先们在这里长眠
Long ago in a northern land...
那就是很久以前的北欧大地.......
The elder and wise men amongst them
他们中有老人，有智者
Watched distrustful to all those
这一切看上去难以至信
Of the foreign men with their swords in hand
异乡的男子手握利剑
...and the mighty tree was felled...
高大的树木被砍掉了
Some days gone by and the elder men disappointed,
日子过去了，老人渐渐失落
They found a grave with a wooden cross upon.
突然他们发现了一个刻有十字的木棺
So they all gathered at a place near the sea at night,
那天晚上，他们聚集在海岸附近
They all sat around their king, and a campfire gave it's light...
他们围坐在国王身旁，篝火照亮他的脸庞

First words were spoken by a maiden of great beauty,
先说话的是一个非常美丽的少女
She whispered silent words to Freya and began to speak.
她有低沉的声音开始诉说
Her iceblue eyes filled with tears as she told them all what happened
他蓝色的冰冷的眼中含着泪水，她告诉他们所发生的一切
In the woods three days ago when two christian men raped her body...
三天前，在那树林中，三个基督徒强暴了她的身体
Long ago in a northern land...
那就是很久以前的北欧大地.......
Many people told what happened and what was done by the christian men;
人们诉说着这件事，诉说着基督徒的罪行
A girl was burned and three farmers died, nine children were never seen again...
一个女孩被烧死，三个农民被杀害，九个孩子失踪......
The king drew his sword and saddled his black horse,
国王牵出他的黑马，跨上他的宝剑
They gave a sacrifice to Odin and to Tyr, the Gods of their war,
他们向奥丁和他的儿子祈祷，那是他们的战斗之神
That might before the morning of... Revenge!!!
在第二个早上，他们要去复仇！！！
The stars were shining from a dark black sky,
闪亮的星光穿过天空的乌云
Their swords reflected the light of the moon,
他们的剑反射着月亮的光
Their torches burned red, the flames blazed up high,
他们点燃火把，那火焰烧得正旺
The hour of their raid will come soon... Revenge!!!
他们行动的时刻来了.....复仇开始！！！
As the sun at last arose crimson, beyond the nordic sea,
当那轮深红色的，超越北欧之海上空的太阳升起
They all stood in armour, with helmet and sword,
他们全副武装，配着头盔和剑
And with certainty of what was forever will be...
他们曾经，而且永远都会是这样
...a furore normannorum libera nos domine...
The bells of the christian churches tolled,
基督教教堂的钟声敲响了
Woke them up so much to late,
当他们醒来，已经太晚了
Two ravens high above watched this bloody deeds
两只乌鸦高高地飞过这个血腥的战场
When the steel becomes their fate...
这成了他们无法逃避的命运
After hours the most of the christian men
几个时辰后，所有的基督徒
By the northmen all were slayed,
都被北欧人消灭
The sun high above was shining bright
太阳高挂在天上，明媚阳光的照耀下
That day of heathenpride...
这一天就是荣耀之日
...a furore normannorum libera nos domine...
我们暂且不谈这首歌里的反基督倾向。其实在基督教统治北欧以前，大部分的北欧人信仰的都是奥丁神，他们从祖先那里继承了英勇善战的个性。
这首歌由Falkenbach乐队写于1989年，从此开创了维京金属的先河。之后，这首歌中的一些创作特点都被其它乐队延续了下来，比如歌中唱到维京人的战斗场面时，便由清嗓转为黑嗓，节奏也开始急促。歌中提到的，战场上空的两只乌鸦，便是奥丁双肩上栖息着的两只乌鸦，分别是代表「思维」的福金（Hugin）及代表「记忆」的雾尼（Munin）。他们是奥丁的眼线，会将每日所见的物向主人报告。当别的神祇饮宴时，奥丁便思索「思维」和「记忆」告诉他的话。
FALKENBACH，它的意思是隼鹰的河流。一支由Vratyas Vakyas组成的单人维京/民谣乐队，他的童年曾经在冰岛度过，也许正是那段日子让Vratyas Vakyas接触到了祖先的神话。乐队的LOGO很有趣，富有很浓重的异教民族特色。我非常喜欢FALKENBACH的旋律，以后我会陆续向大家分享他们的其它作品。
